Unite For Hunger And Hope

hunger & hope

hunger & hope

Since world hunger was the prominent social awareness campaign suggedte by Blog Catalog members  Bloggers Unite is  partnering with Heifers International, a worldwide movement that aims to end hunger and poverty by providing livestock and agricultural training to improve lives.

Unite For Hunger And Hope

All you have to do to help end world hunger is to join thousands of others bloggers on April 29th, 2009 and write a post about world hunger. You can make a difference.

  • Right now, more than 500 million people are living what the World Bank has labeled “absolute poverty,” with more than 15 million children die of hunger every year.
  • World Health Organization estimates that one-third is under-fed one-third is starving. By the time you read this announcement, 200 more people will die of starvation.
  • Even in the United States, 46 percent of African-American children and 49 percent of Latino children are considered chronically hungry.

Organizations like Heifers International are part of the solution. Every day in April, Heifer International is working hard to help lift people out of poverty by providing communities with livestock and agricultural training to improve lives and empower people. Once these communities are empowered, they help neighboring communities and “Pass on the Gift.”

    Now this is one that I can actually get “into” and support without reservation. I blogged in support of clean drinking water last year; and so this year it seems only natural that blogging in support of adequate food for all would be “just down my alley”. Thanks for the reminder TT…I’ll make myself a note. ~Nards~

      Bless you Nards. I’m going through some personal stuff right now that I won’t be sharing. It’s heavy and I’m exhausted. However, as I was raised in abject poverty for part of my childhood I know how important the work Heifers International is doing is. Gifts of livestock and agricultural training are life saving gifts. I wish I had money, buckets of money to give.

    Thanks for mentioning this great event! I’m on the team for Bloggers Unite as well as for Heifer International, helping get as many volunteers as possible. Heifer really is incredible. I’ve seen several of their informational DVDs and read a lot about their history. The basic premise, as I understand it, is to lift generations out of poverty by sharing livestock along with knowledge about how to use them, plus the responsibility to “pass on the gift” of offspring to others in the community. It’s genius.

    Let me know if you have any ideas on how to make this event as awesome as possible. We’re already at over 300 participants and counting.

      @Easton
      It’s so good to hear from you. Heifers International is a wonderful organization and their “pass on the gift” is an excellent program that is and will be effective. I wish I had a million dollars to purchase livestock and agricultural training with but I don’t so I’ll do the best I can in my own community and by blogging too.

    I have lived on th lower side of what life in this world has to offer. I have also had good times as well. My belief is that no man, woman or child should ever go wanting for anything. Business, society and politics have created, maintained and exploited the poor and lower classes. I would like to see businesses created that not only can make profits, but benefit the consumer as well. We no longer find solutions for our needs. Rather, we find ways to exploit our needs for profit. There is no wrong in accumulating profits. But, there is wrong if it is done at the expense of others. This is what I believe. This is what I advocate. This…Mr Dprince knows.

    Hunger is something that is very be pitied. Because the injustice of life in the world at this time. I hope the rich will see that there are still many people who hunger in the other hemisphere

      @riyan
      Richness is relative and injustice has always been a factor. Hopefully what we can do as individuals and collectively to raise awareness and feed the hungry will lead to a better world for all.

      I believe Heifers International’s Pass on the Gift project is a huge step in the right direction and hope you will become a donor.
