Thank you for this well thought out article. With the economic woes, we need to consider where we spend those hard-earned dollars so they have the most direct impacts. As you describe so well, keeping local businesses helps the environment, helps preserve historic character of an area, helps your neighbor who owns the shop, helps the local economy and makes you feel more connected to your community.
