Striding to Orgasm
Research has linked vaginal orgasm to better mental health and a new study provides some support for assumptions of a link between muscle blocks and sexual function.
A study published in the September 2008 issue of The Journal of Sexual Medicine demonstrates trained sexologists could infer a woman’s history of vaginal orgasm by observing the way she walks.
The study, involving 16 female Belgian university students, was led by Stuart Brody of the University of the West of Scotland in collaboration with colleagues in Belgium and results showed that the appropriately trained sexologists were able to correctly infer vaginal orgasm through watching the way the women walked over 80 percent of the time.
Further analysis revealed that the sum of stride length and vertebral rotation was greater for the vaginally orgasmic women. The authors note, “This could reflect the free, unblocked energetic flow from the legs through the pelvis to the spine.”In addition, vaginally orgasmic women may feel more confident about their sexuality, which might be reflected in their gait. “Such confidence might also be related to the relationship(s) that a woman has had, given the finding that specifically penile-vaginal orgasm is associated with indices of better relationship quality,” the authors state. Research has linked vaginal orgasm to better mental health.

…and still people die in the streets, hungry & homeless. I’m sorry, but there are better ways to spend money these days.

Wow. That IS a fascinating study.

Good thing I’m learning about it while I’m still in high school :)

I think this is the most interesting thing I’ve read all day!

I also find this study to be fascinating–and I believe it is important to extole the virtues of a healthy sex life. In the U.S., we cling to puritanical beliefs–women are taught that sex is ‘dirty’ and that it is something that is ‘required’ for a happy marriage.
Having a healthy sex life is important to both physical and mental health–I like this study and feel it is completely worthwhile.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for commenting. Like Melinda I found this study to be fascinating and I agree that having a healthy sex life is important.
As we age our hip rotation flexibility decreases and our spinal column compresses. We can experience blocked energetic flow from the legs through the pelvis to the spine.
Quoting from above: Further analysis revealed that the sum of stride length and vertebral rotation was greater for the vaginally orgasmic women. The authors note, “This could reflect the free, unblocked energetic flow from the legs through the pelvis to the spine.”
I’m a walker get out in the fresh air everyday for at least one hour every day. I practice yoga and I do Kegel exercises as well. I do have fibromyalgia but I am focused on maintaining flexible joints, lithe muscles, a healthy body and a great sex life too. :)

and to think, Lana… orgasms are FREE.
I like your blog timethief, and I am quite pleased that you stumbled upon mine. I look forward to reading your other blog as well. Peace — jb

@Timethief–I am sorry to hear about your fibromyalgia (I read about this on another one of your posts). I have chronic pain problems with my back. I have degenerative disc disease, arthritis, and two herniated discs in my lower back (complicated by the degenerative disc disease). I also do yoga, core exercises, and work hard to keep my body in good shape (God knows for years I did not).
A great sex life not only is fun :) it also helps to reduce stress–and stress is implicated in a multitude of both physical and psychological maladies.
I honestly think the more stories there are that talk about the real health benefits of sexuality are needed. We are still so “hush-hush” when it comes to this topic.
I teach a class, Human Sexuality, and it is one of my students’ favorite classes–many tell me afterward that they never so much of what is covered and that’s a real shame.

An interesting, worthwhile and fascinating piece.
My own views are totally in accord with those of Melinda’s. I, too, believe that a healthy sex life is as fundamental to human well-being as a healthy diet.
Sexual repression as observed in human beings can lead to behaviours that include lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, depression, suicidal tendencies, and higher levels of aggression.
A valid study and a very interesting post. Thank you.

Agreed.

“Sexual repression as observed in human beings can lead to behaviours that include lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, depression, suicidal tendencies, and higher levels of aggression.”
Without doubt there are many those who under estimate the connection between high self esteem and a healthy sex life. Suffice to say that when our “self” is in good shape so is our sex life.

This is a very important article, in that, for some women having an orgasm is very hard work if it happens at all. This study might actually some women finally achieve the earth shattering extreme pleasure of an orgasm. Great article.

Both men and women can benefit by insuring that there is an unblocked energy flow through the legs, pelvis and spine. For women this news that unblocked energy flow is key to orgasm is very important. Luckily, it’s also something they can act to improve.

Right, I’m joining a yoga class!

@Mrs T
I have been doing yoga and Kegel exercises for over 20 years and I can recommend it. I recommend them as well as walking every day.
Kegel exercises are sexy

Wow, now I am going to be really self conscious about how I walk!
Oct 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 am
@Julie
Don’t be self conscious. Understand that those women who sit on their butts eating and moaning about their weight gain are creating poor musculature. And those who do not practice Kegel exercises are also creating a bad scenario. They are denying themselves the joy of a fulfilling sex life. So understand that and then move it or lose it!
