Who is God to you? Who are you? Who am I?

Who am I?

Are you your thoughts?

Are they yours because you observe them?

Can you be without thoughts?

Without thinking?

I’m going to provide you with a link to a flash video that is unusual and interesting. You’ll need a Shockwave plugin (Flash player 5.0) to be able to view it. After you have viewed it please read on.

Two questions were asked on a general discussion forum that I want to share with readers and maybe even provoke a discussion about. Writing them here gives me an opportunity to introduce two new friends I have made as well.

There were other answers given to the first question below but the one that resonated for me was by Acousticguitarist

Who is God to you?

The essence that lives in all things and is beyond all things

that which has no beginning and no end

the thing that we sometimes give a name, but cannot truly be defined

can be experienced and felt but never really can put into words
nor cannot it be understood by the human mind because it is beyond the framework of thought

I can’t find a place where it isn’t but I’m sure beyond a doubt that it’s attribute is love.

Acousticguitarist, who gave the answer above, describes himself this way. I play guitar, and have done so for almost 40 years. This has led me through numerous styles and has given me some incredible opportunities to play with world class musicians, absolute beginners and every variation in between. I have four blogs. The major one is The Acoustic Guitar Blog

~~~~~
The second question was posed by Robin Easton an author, speaker, environmentalist, musician, nature photographer, adventurer and blogger. Naked in Eden Blog is a philosophical and social commentary blog with a touch of humor and a deep love of nature. Her posts are drawn from personal questions, insights and inspirations that arise in response to day-to-day life.
Who are you?
What if (for the moment) you took everything that defines who you are out of your life, out of the picture: your social standing, your work place/job, your income, your home, where you live, your age, your education, books you read, religious/spiritual training, psychological counseling, TV, internet, radio, and family and friends, etc? Now, with all that out of the picture can you tell me who you are?
Take everything that defines who you are out of your life and tell me who you are.
~~~~~

This was and is my answer:

I am a soul. During this my earth walk, I reside in a body. I have a mind and when it reaches still point, transcending everyday consciousness, I embrace the wisdom of the ages — all are ONE — mitakuye oyasin — all my relations.

Each flower, tree, rock and animal is my teacher. Those who call me “enemy” or “friend” are equally my teachers. I have many life lessons to learn. Those that I do not learn immediately will be presented to me over and over again on this my earth walk and, on my spirit walk as well.

~~~~~
Later I visited Robin’s blog and read this:
ROBIN’S SOUL: Once while sitting alone in the Australian rainforest these words passed through me. I never forgot them.
And the Soul said, “I shall never be stopped. I am forever. I am without time or distance. I am in love with all of existence. I am everything. I am not hidden and mysterious. I am fully present and wonderfully delirious…drunk on life. I am silent galaxies of endless stars mated with noisy kaleidoscopes of Mardi Gras dancers. I am everything.”
Well readers, what did you think? Would you care to share your answers to these questions?
    Who am I? I am a mother, daughter, sister, friend, and soon a wife. I hold many titles. None of these things would be possible without a soul. Your soul defines who you are or who you become. Whithout your soul you couldn’t think or exist.
    My thoughts are my own. I grew up in a pentacostal church and I did not feel the same as everyone else. I knew I was different. I don’t care what religion you practice or even if you’re athiest as long as you’re a good person. This wasn’t the view of my church.
    I began to read on other religions and I said to myself why does God have to be a man? God is a spirit. If God is a spirit then God is neither man nor woman. Again, my church refered to God as “he.”
    When I was in church my only friends were pentacostal. Now I have friends from all walks of like and I’m much happier for it.
    Thank you so much for answering straight from your heart Shirley. I really appreciate it.
    Everyone has religious roots and this post contains a description of mine. I was raised in an evangelical Christian fundamentalist family. My mother was a conservative United Church type and my father was a charismatic Pentecostal. We alternated between churches and belonged to two very different church families. I left the confines of these exclusive Christian cults many years ago and I chose to pursue nature based and inclusive spiritual paths.
    I am no less than a physical body; I am no more than a convenient fiction. I am a very small node on a vast ecological and energetic web. I am an idol that time and chance are working every moment to destroy.
    Thanks for the poetic response Dave. :)
    I think I’m with Doc!
    Who I am is not static. Who I Am is changing, expanding, absorbing, morphing….
    I pray to stay aware in just that right way,
    alert to the soft nudging and surprise visitations of Good showing up… as Others who Touch My Soul, as urges that are grounded not in the consumeristic part of my personality but in the part that pulses with the Universe.
    God is all of this Good.
    (I do not believe there is any “not-God’… so isn’t to talk about what God IS a bit… silly? Minimally difficult! :>)
    Happy to stop by and say HI BrightFeather!!
    Who is God?
    God is what I need it to be, when I need it. When inspirations are low, things are beyond my control or when I am down on myself. I look inside and find that inspiration that can only be explained as God. No judgment, no obligations, no subscription, no dues, no attendance, but is still their and in everything and everyone.
    Who I am
    A thinker, observer and a tinkerer. 1/2 the time I am Shy and quiet and lack confidence. the other 1/2 of the time I am extremely confident, self assured and a little arrogant.
    Just found this post (your blog is in my bookmarks) and was intrigued by the video and follow-up thoughts.
    A bit along this wavelength, I blogged recently about both God and how I would describe my life in a six-word memoir. It rather relates to your post, although is not a direct answer. Title is “Who Weeps for God” Here’s the link to paste into your browser:
    I like visiting your blog very much too and I will be returning to read your posts. I admit I’m a pretty poor commenter but I do intend to try to become better at it. . Would you like to enter a reciprocal linking agreement? I’ll link to your blog on my Links page right now and you can link back to mine in your Blogroll. What say you?
    I am who I am…no more, no less. I love people, animals and nature… I am just as thrilled at the loss of my 8th grandchild’s first tooth loss, as I was with the first grandchild. I seem to have an optimistic view on life in general. And I am deeply in love with Jesus, who defines me as being created in His image. My heart cries for those who are in pain, be it, mental, physical, emotional or spiritual. And I have done all that I know how to help, when I can help! I am my husband’s wife, who defines me as his love. I am my aging parents helping hand, my businesses success, and my blogs ideas. Is there room for improvement? Yes as long as I am alive I will continue to grow in knowledge, grace and wisdom. I have grown to like and accept who I am.
  17. avatar Lydia Says:
    Hi!
    Sorry that I just now found your remarks about having reciprocal links. Yes, I am all for this as your blog belongs on my blogroll. I don’t want one of those blogrolls that runs 75 names, just special places to me. Yours is one of them. I haven’t looked at your links page and will do so right now.
    Have a beautiful week.
    Lydia.
