  1. Mine says that I make a good first impression. You probably are making a much better impression than you realize. Social situations can be a bit awkward for you at times, and you tend to over think what you say and do. Just relax and do your best.

Normally I don’t do that well with quizzes, but that’s pretty good for me! I can feel slightly awkward but I get on well with most people and I enjoy being around them… it’s sad that conversation’s becoming more of a lost art, though. Our social skills say so much for who we are.

Thanks for the quiz. And I love the LastFM quilt, btw. It’s hypnotic. ;)

  2. Quizzes are quirky because they are so generalized. The way they are constructed often means that though we answer honestly the results can sometimes be as wrong as they are right. (Kudos to Alabaster for this observation.)

I agree with your comment about conversation being a lost art. And I freely admit that I’m not as conversational on my blog as I am in person.

I live in the country. Here we do make eye contact and, we smile and nod to all as we pass by, whether or not we happen to know them.

Well, here’s the contrast I witnessed on a trip to the city. People at bus stops, on buses, in ferry terminals and malls, who immediately stuffed their faces into books, magazines and newspapers, when it appeared that someone near to them might actually say g’day to them.

Two young women in their 20’s I spoke to asking directions of in a mall were loathe to make eye contact with me, let alone, smile back.

Three salesclerks who were chatting with friends on cell phones, while ringing in merchandise for me (fleeting eye contact - no greeting).

Last, but not least, women talking on cell phones and text messaging in public toilet cubicles, while others stood ssilently outside the cubicles in a queue, loathe to say “If you’ve done your business in there then come out because others are waiting.” Two toilet talkers actually left the cubicles and strolled out the main door, with cell phones still plastered to their ears and, without washing their hands!

I was so glad to get home that I almost ran off the ferry and kissed the sodden ground.

P.S. If you hover your mouse over any album cover in the lastfm quilt and click, you can listen to the track. I know for sure there’s one there that we both like. ;-)
