Are Canadian Women Hot?

Are Canadian women hot? Apparently, the answer is: not very.

In May of 2007 Eddie Fisher wrote about sexual misconceptions in his article titled Men who don’t put out in Chatelaine magazine.

This August we heard the findings of an online survey by Chatelaine magazine. Around 3,560 readers responded to questions about their beliefs, habits and fears and the results are published in the October issue in an article entitled “The State of the Canadian Woman.” At that time we learned that about one in five Canadian women surveyed admitted to cheating on her partner while, almost half said that loyalty is the attribute they value most in a spouse or partner.

Now Chatelaine reports polling nearly 4,000 Canadian women who revealed candid details of their sex lives in a survey.

Here are some “highlights” and other points that may be of interest.

  • 44% of the women surveyed were under 18 when they had their first intercourse;
  • 91% said they had sex prior to marriage;
  • the norm for was 7 – 8 sex partners in a lifetime and 77% surveyed said they didn’t mind being honest about the number with other people;
  • 81% said they had never had cybersex;
  • 81% said they like receiving oral sex; 33% said they don’t like giving it;
  • 72% French respondents said they experience orgasm most or all of the time during sex, 57% in English Canada say the same;
  • 70% said their spouse was the best lover they had ever had;
  • 55% said they don’t want to dominate their partners in bed;
  • 53% said they wanted more sex than they get;
  • 50% said their body images interferes with sex;
  • almost half said they had sex every week but, 29% said they couldn’t remember their last time;
  • 43% French respondents said they initiate sex as often as their partners do; 32% in English Canada said the same;
  • 38% said they own a vibrator;
  • 35% said emotional availability to another person constitutes cheating;
  • 31% said they would rather have a root canal than spend a day at a nude beach (68% would choose the nude beach ^^);
  • 29% said they masturbate less than once per month; 22 said they never masturbate;
  • 28% said they had sworn off sex at least once in the past;
  • 27% said love is “everything” when it comes to having great sex; 41% said it’s not everything “but it’s most important”;
  • 1 of every 4 said they routinely fake orgasm;
  • 22% said they have had phone sex with their partners; 5% have had phone sex with a stranger.

    Hi,
    Some of those results are pretty eye-opening. One in four routinely fake orgasms? Points to a horrendous lack of communication in Canadian bedrooms, doesn’t it?

    They should have broken that under-18 question down further. I think they’d have been surprised to know that a large percentage had their first sex before 14. At least that was the result of the informal survey I once took.

    I was surprised by some of the results too. 29% said they couldn’t remember their last time. 53% said they wanted more sex than they get and 35% said emotional availability to another person constitutes cheating. The other numbers that surprised me as well were the differences between French and English stats on orgasms.

    What struck me is that 90 percent of the women have had premarital sex! That’s a huge figure. Ofcourse one cannot compare this to more conservative cultures as people won’t readily admit to it. but I wonder how it is as compared to the Uk and the US?
    It’s great that you are posting regularly again! I read your stuff via email. :)

    @Nita,
    Actually I think that the vast majority of Canadian kids and American kids do initiate their sex lives prior to the age of 15 years. This means that those who are least emotionally equipped to participate in a healthy lifelong relationship don’t establish or maintain enduring relationships per say – they just have sex.

    In the informal survey I conducted when I was young and single, a lot of women said their first sex was below 14. One said, yeah, I started kinda late. – I was 14 and the rest of my friends had started when they were 11 or12. They were all from small towns in northern BC and Alberta, where boredom does reign.
