For me breathing is key to reaching a conscious state. I used to gulp my in breath like a goldfish. Once I got past that and just relaxed knowing that  due to the vacuum effect my lungs would fill without any conscious intervention I was on my way.  Now whenever I&#039;m having trouble grounding I combine this with imagery. I visualize my exhaled breath as being gray/black in colour (exhaling impurities) and I visualize my inhaled breath as being white in colour (inhaling purity).]]></description>

Jill Kuykendall, one of my shamanic teachers (wife of Hank Wesselman) and I were talking about &quot;the noisy mind&quot; and she said she had the same problem. Her spirit guides suggested when meditating that she journey to her sacred garden and get into the same position there and synchronize her breathing between her &quot;here&quot; and &quot;there,&quot; and as you suggest, then concentrate on the breathing. It has worked surprisingly well for me, but I still have a ways to go.]]></description>
