More than 317,000 people from 41 countries took part in the world’s largest ever survey on sexual attitudes and behaviour. Almost half of all adults surveyed said they were happy with their sex lives although men are the least satisfied with how often they have sex.

The French who have always had such a longstanding reputation when it comes to being outstanding in the art of seduction must have been surprised to read the results. The French scores were on the second lowest rung of the ladder of love with only the Japanese scoring lower. But what really has to hurt is that the French are the most frequent performers, making love 120 times a year. The Greeks topped the 26 nations at 164 and the British scored a very respectable 92.

And, worse still, only 25 per cent of French men and women report that they are sexually satisfied. At the top were Nigerians (67 per cent) and Mexicans (63 per cent) followed by 40% of Britons professing satisfaction.

On the other hand, it seems that the French do make less effort. The survey found, they concluded their sexual acts in 14 minutes, compared with 16 minutes for the British and 24 for Nigerians, who take scored highest for the longest timeframe.
